Before You Begin

Have these ready:

  • Audience KPI: The customer list/filter defining who gets your messages (required)

  • Email Template: A pre-designed email layout (required if sending email)

  • Promotion: A configured discount or offer (optional)

💡 Use Save & Exit at any point to save your progress and return later.

Getting Started

Open SMRT → click Broadcast in the left navigation panel → click + Create Broadcast → click Start workflow.

Step 1 — Who (Target Audience)

  • Broadcast Name: Clear and descriptive. E.g. "Spring Cleaning Special 2026" or "Win-Back Q1 2026"

  • Broadcast Type: Marketing (promotions on) or Notification (promotions off)

  • Include Audience: Select KPI(s) for who should receive this broadcast

  • Exclude Audience: Optional — remove segments like recent purchasers or VIP customers

AND/OR logic: "ALL selected KPIs" means the customer must match every filter. "ANY selected KPIs" means matching at least one.

Step 2 — How (Delivery Settings)

Choose your messaging channel:

  • Email + SMS: Maximum reach

  • Only Email: Best for detailed or visual content

  • Only SMS: Best for urgent or time-sensitive offers

  • Email First: Prefer email, use SMS as fallback

  • SMS First: Prefer SMS, use email as fallback

Then choose when to send:

  • Send Immediately: Check the "Send immediately" checkbox — broadcast goes out as soon as you activate in Step 4

  • Schedule for Later: Leave the checkbox unchecked and select a date and time using the date picker.

Step 3 — What (Message Content)

Promotion (optional)

Select an existing promotion or create a new one. Toggle Automatically apply promotion ON to skip the code entry at checkout.

SMS

Max 1,500 characters. Lead with your offer, include your business name, add an expiration date, and end with a clear call-to-action. Use dynamic fields to personalize — e.g. {{customer.firstName}}, {{brand.name}}, {{customer.promotionLink}} — inserted via the dropdown.

Email

Select an existing template or create a new one. Write a subject line (under 50 characters recommended). Preview on both desktop and mobile before moving on.

Step 4 — Preview & Activate

Review everything: name, type, audience, delivery settings, promotion, SMS, and email content.

When ready:

  • Save & Exit: Saves as a draft — you can activate it later from the dashboard

  • Enable Campaign toggle + Activate: Goes live immediately — sends now or at your scheduled time

⚠️ Important: Enabling the broadcast makes it active immediately. Messages already sent cannot be recalled.

After activation, your broadcast will appear in the dashboard with a Sent (green) or Scheduled (blue) status badge.

Troubleshooting

  • KPI not in dropdown: Make sure it's tagged with "Marketing Customer Filters"

  • "Fill in required fields" warning: Complete all required fields before clicking Next

  • Broadcast not sending: Check that the Enable Campaign toggle is ON and your audience KPI has matching customers

  • Dynamic fields showing {brackets}: Test with real customer data to verify field population
