This guide will walk you through troubleshooting a wireless Honeywell barcode scanner, helping you identify and resolve common issues quickly. You'll learn how to interpret the LED indicators on the scanner’s base and understand the meaning behind various beeps and sounds. Whether you're experiencing connectivity issues, charging problems, or decoding errors, this guide will provide step-by-step instructions to get your scanner back in optimal working condition.

First, we'll begin with the base of the scanner. You'll notice a red and green LED illuminating from the pager button (Example images below). These LED signify the charging status and connectivity from the scanner to the computer.

  • A solid red LED shows a stable connection from the base to the computer. This is required to receive data from the scanner. If the red light is absent, please check the physical USB connection between the base and the computer.

  • A solid green LED showcases a fully charged handheld battery. If the green LED is flashing, the scanner is actively charging. If no light is present, the scanner is not in the base; or not receiving a charge.

Now that you have confirmed the base is connected to the computer and the scanner is receiving power, let's ensure the handheld is in good shape.

The scanner makes various sounds/beeps to alert you of good/bad scans, potential scanning errors and connectivity issues.

  • With the scanner placed in the base, if you pull the trigger and hear a quack/chirp sound along with the scanner illumining light; the handheld is having trouble connecting to the base. Scan the barcode on the back of the base and reseat the scanner. You should hear an upbeat beep alerting you a connection has been made. If you're still hearing the quacking and experiencing troubles, remove the battery from the handle of the scanner and reseat it. Then, repeat previous steps.

  • If you scan a SMRT Barcode and hear "error" beep and no data is received by the computer, please follow the programming manual that can be found within the SMRT App Hardware settings or refer to our Honeywell Scanner Programming guide.
